In a progressive move towards inclusive education, SLP is proud to announce the launch of its pioneering Enhanced Learning Provision (ELP). This dedicated facility marks a significant milestone in our commitment to providing tailored education and support for students with diverse learning needs. It is built on one of our school sites, Greenland Community Primary School.
Designed to foster an environment of inclusivity and personalised learning, the ELP aims to empower every student to reach their full potential. Through innovative teaching methodologies, specialised resources, and a team of experienced educators, we aspire to create a nurturing space where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
“At SLP, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed,” said Mark Stewart, CEO of SLP. “The launch of our ELP reaffirms our dedication to inclusive education and our commitment to supporting the diverse needs of all our students in our local area.”
The ELP at Greenland represents a significant step forward in our mission to provide a nurturing and inclusive learning environment for all. We are excited about the possibilities it holds for our students and look forward to witnessing their achievements and progress.
SLP is a leading primary Multi Academy Trust committed to providing excellence in education and fostering a supportive learning environment for all students. With a focus on innovation, inclusivity, and personalised learning, we strive to empower every child to reach their aspiration without limit.
Claire Mallett, Assistant Head of Greenland Community Primary School and SLP SEND Lead commented ‘We are delighted to have officially opened our purpose-built enhanced learning provision at Greenland Community Primary School, which is part of SLP Multi Academy Trust. The main focus of the provision is to provide inclusive education for children with Education, Health and Care Plans based in North Durham. Children who attend the ELP face barriers to learning, have difficulties with communication and social interaction, have sensory and physical needs or may struggle in a traditional mainstream classroom. The ELP is not a special school, but an enhancement to mainstream provision, focused on providing an alternative approach to the structure of their school day with short bursts of learning, regular movement/sensory breaks with higher levels of adult support and intervention in a predictable, safe and inclusive environment. The ELP is a two-classroom base with an additional sensory space. It overlooks forest school, is bright and airy with bi-fold doors connecting the indoor to the outdoor provision providing a calm and nurturing environment which is often needed to support some children.’
Parents of children who attend the ELP were invited to attend the official opening.
“We are feeling very emotional today. It has been a long journey but we couldn’t be happier that we have eventually found this special place for our son”, stated one parent.
“Giving children a chance to access the education that they need is amazing on their own doorstep. For the first time she is not worried and anxious to come to school and feels as though she belongs”, stated another parent. “She has friends for the first time ever!”
“From the very first few weeks, he has received the best support and care. The staff are amazing and nothing is too much. He is now actually exceeding all our expectations academically and socially”
Officially opened by Tom Harpe, Chair of Trustees at SLP, who said attended Greenland as a pupil 72 years ago said ‘It is an extremely proud moment for him, the School and the Trust to open such a facility dedicated to enhance the education and emotional well-being of pupils not only at Greenland but also in the North Durham area.’ Tom returned to Greenland in 2004 when he became a Governor then Chair of Governors before joining the Trustee board of SLP in 2018, of which he still chairs today.
